Airbus Racer Chopper Concept meets Reality

Airbus has always signified technological innovation and advanced engineering. This time, with the astounding Airbus Racer Chopper Concept, the company has gone one step further with their own vision of the future of helicopter transportation. The futuristic flying machine combines lightweight materials with an impressive power plant and eco-friendly features. In a nutshell, the racer chopper boasts high performance, fuel efficiency and unbeatable top speed. All this comes packaged with a luxurious interior to comprise a sleek package. The exterior is stunning to behold, with space-aged wings, rotors and style. You would almost expect to see it in a Star Wars or Blade Runner movie. It would fit perfectly into either scenario but lands here on earth in 2020!

Code named Racer, The rapid and cost effective rotorcraft engines are capable of reaching a maximum speed of 400 kph and incorporate a box wing exterior design which effectively optimises the aircraft for improved aerodynamics during flight. There are, in fact, two engines that drive the lateral rotors while using the fuel-saving eco-mode that extends the aircraft’s range. Each Racer is comprised of hybrid metallic composite materials that reduce weight and improve performance. Furthermore, it is equipped with a newly designed, high voltage direct current electrical generation system that contributes significantly to weight reduction.

With production already scheduled for 2019, the first batch of helicopters will be ready by 2020. As yet, there is no confirmation of pricing or exact specs, yet there is already keen interest being registered from certain quarters. The new project pools the skills and expertise of dozens of European partners by way of the Clean Sky 2 initiative. The ultimate objective is to bring faster speeds, increased range and aerodynamic design in a cost-efficient manner. The Airbus Racer sets new benchmarks with higher standards in every aspect, from conception to performance. The future of helicopter travel looks bright indeed!
