Flawless blue diamond sells for $24 million at Geneva auction

The world’s largest flawless vivid blue diamond sold for $24 million at a Christie’s sale in Geneva on May 14 – setting a new world auction record for the price per carat for a blue diamond.

Just a day after Sotheby’s sold a 100-carat flawless yellow diamond for $16.3 million, came the sale of the 13.22 carat rock known simply as “The Blue“.
The US jeweller Harry Winston bought the blue diamond, and immediately after the sale, it was renamed into ‘The Winston Blue’.

Christie’s next Magnificent Jewels sale will be held in Hong Kong on May 27. Headlining it is a rare Golconda diamond pendent necklace named The Eye of Golconda, whose centrepiece is the largest Golconda-mined diamond ever to be auctioned in Asia.

The Heritage Bank Power Suit pays for your purchases

Australia’s Heritage Bank teamed up with Visa to launch The Heritage Power Suit, a wearable technology outfit with an inbuilt payment chip sewn into its sleeve.

The bank is using the same NFC chip used in the VISA payWave terminals, but instead of embedding them in a card, they are woven inside the sleeve of a suit. The chip is then linked to the account of the user. The balance of the Power Suit can be checked and topped up with a linked Heritage Bank prepaid account accessible online or through an app.

The suit is made from fine merino wool and is tailored by MJ Bale.

Heritage Bank donates all the money paid for the Power Suits to 4 ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorders) Kids. This actually means that the Power Suit, enables users of this wearable tech garment, to pay for purchases using their sleeves, and donate to a charitable organization at the same time.

Diamond Auctioned for Record $83m Dollars.

Just a few weeks ago a diamond the size of a plum were auctioned in Geneva for $83m dollars. the world record for a gemstone.  This extraordinary stone had been estimated at $60m. This Diamond was found by De Beers in Africa 1999 and has since has an unknown amount of owners which all have remained incognito.
The 59.60-carat “Pink Star” weighs in at 11.92 grams being the largest in its class ever graded with the second biggest less than half its size. What makes it even more precious is the fact that it falls into a rare category with the purest diamond crystals and unmatched optical transparency, comprising less than two percent of all gem diamonds.
