Mercedes-Benz has revealed the new 2016 AMG GT, the second sports car developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG. The combination of unique design and fantastic performances that adorn this car will surely impress many people. The new two-seater becomes the first Mercedes-AMG model which use a new developed V8 direct injection petrol engine.
“With the new Mercedes-AMG GT, we are venturing out into a challenging sports car segment with its top-class competitive field. This is an incentive and motivation for us at the same time to prove to sports car enthusiasts around the world the kind of performance that AMG is capable of,” said Prof Dr Thomas Weber, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, Group Research & Mercedes-Benz Cars Development.
Buyers will be able to choose between a standard GT and more powerful GT S. Both are powered by an all-new 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8 that makes 456 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque in the base GT and 503 hp and 479 lb-ft in the GT S. Top speed for the GT S is electronically limited to 193 mph. Depending on the model, there are up to five different driving modes: controlled efficiency, sport, sport plus, individual and race – the latter available exclusively on the GT S.
The car has a long hood and wide rear end and it will be largely made of aluminum. The interior of the car is spotless and it features wide dash, four throw-back air vents and an instrument cluster made up of analog gauges. The center console’s design and materials make the driver feel like a racing driver.
“Breathtaking proportions, powerfully sculpted surfaces and flowing lines turn the new AMG into a contemporary sports car which embodies the spirit of the glorious Mercedes sports cars. The GT is a consummate combination of beauty and intelligence,” said Gorden Wagener, Vice President Design Daimler AG.
