With each new edition Lamborghini is setting new standards of raw ferocity and superior luxury on the road. The latest Centenario model is no exception. At $2.2 million, only 20 cats will be manufactured and potential buyers are already lining up to own one of the exclusive vehicles.
Lamborghini unveiled the automotive masterpiece this week at Pebble Beach after the debut of the coupe version earlier this year. The naturally aspirated V12 sports 770 horsepower, making it, along with its nearly identical coupe brother, the most powerful Lamborghini to date. The name celebrates what the hundredth birthday of its founder, Ferruccio Lamborghini, with th intention of delivering “the freedom of a true open-top super sports car for a pure drive experience,” said Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali.
The car represents a new design direction for Lamborghini, with “clean surfaces and superb reflections” and an ethos of “form following function.” The ultra-exclusive Centenario accelerates from from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of more than 350 km/h. Braking distance is equally impressive: from 100-0 km/h in just 31 m. this model adopts Lamborghini new rear wheel steering, which increases turning agility at low speed while increasing stability at high speed.
Retaining the brand’s core DNA in design, Centenario’s silhouette is defined by low overhangs in the front and rear for a clean, sensuous, mono-body shape. The signature matte finish is achieved through a new high-tech process dissolving the metal while diluting and diminishing the appearance of the metal grain, which results in a silky and rich exterior finish.
